This blog will be a way to keep everyone updated on the progress of my treatment; a place to journal about the process of dealing with all that comes with a cancer diagnosis; and hopefully it will serve as a support to others dealing with their own issues around cancer.

After several months of not feeling well I had an ultrasound to see if my gall bladder could be the issue. The test revealed a mass on my liver and some swollen lymph nodes. The indication was cancer. This was late in July of 2019. I was next scheduled for a CT Scan of my chest and abdomen. Those revealed more detail of the liver and lymph node abnormalities and indicated a mass in my colon, specifically in the region of the cecum. Some concerning spots were also noted in my lungs, with a note to follow up with another CT Scan in three months to see if they grew or if there were more. I was already in queue to be scheduled for a colonoscopy, but that got pushed along and happened in late August of 2019. The diagnosis was finally confirmed: primary cancer in the cecum with metastasis to the liver. I met with an oncologist at the tail end of August and he verified the diagnosis and classified it as stage 4, non curable. I was scheduled to begin palliative chemotherapy beginning on September 11, 2019. It is too early to determine any sort of actual prognosis, but statistically, people with my diagnosis live about two and one half years after diagnosis.

So begins the journey.
